Our Operations

BOL’s operations span the petroleum supply chain, from procurement and storage to distribution across Botswana.

Driving Energy Security Across Botswana

BOL’s operations cover every stage of the petroleum supply chain. We procure, store, and distribute petroleum products to ensure a reliable and continuous supply throughout Botswana. Our network of depots and strategic facilities enables efficient national distribution and supports citizen participation in the petroleum sector.

Southern Operations

Head Office, Gaborone & Lobatse depots.

Central Operations

Mid-country logistics and storage.

Northern Operations

Francistown hub and northern distribution.

Strategic Storage

BOL manages the national strategic petroleum reserves on behalf of the Government of Botswana. These reserves safeguard the nation against supply disruptions and ensure the availability of fuel during emergencies.
Our storage infrastructure is maintained to international standards and positioned to provide equitable supply across all regions.

Depots and Infrastructure

Our depots and facilities across Botswana enable efficient fuel handling, storage, and distribution. Each depot supports both International and Citizen Owned Oil Companies through storage rental, loading, and logistical support services.
BOL continuously upgrades its infrastructure to align with global safety and environmental standards.

Supply and Logistics

BOL’s supply strategy focuses on diversifying sources and routes to strengthen energy security. The company sources petroleum products through multiple entry points, including Namibia, Mozambique, and South Africa, ensuring a cost-effective and resilient supply chain.
This strategy aligns supply routes with regional consumption patterns:

  • Southern Corridor (57%) – supplied through South Africa

  • Northern Corridor (35%) – supplied through Mozambique

  • Western Corridor (8%) – supplied through Namibia

Procurement Framework

As a government-owned enterprise, BOL’s procurement is guided by the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Board (PPADB) regulations.
All sourcing activities are based on principles of fairness, transparency, and competitiveness, using Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and open tenders.

Empowering Local Participation

Botswana Oil Limited (BOL) is committed to driving citizen economic empowerment within Botswana’s petroleum industry. Through targeted programmes and digital tools, BOL ensures that Citizen Owned Oil Companies (COOCs) and local transporters can fully participate in fuel supply, logistics, and infrastructure opportunities.

  • Dedicated fuel supply allocations for COOCs.
  • Access to depot storage rental and truck staging facilities.
  • Ongoing mentorship and compliance support for emerging operators.
  • Collaboration with financial institutions to improve access to funding.

Ready to partner with Botswana Oil Limited?

BOL is transitioning from manual registration to a secure online application system. This new feature allows citizen companies to register, upload documents, and receive automatic confirmation, reducing paperwork and improving transparency.

Key Features:

  • Secure data submission and encrypted uploads.

  • Automated reference number and email confirmation.

  • Built-in verification with BOL’s internal systems.

  • Data protection compliance under the Botswana Data Protection Act (2024).

Monitoring and Engagement

To support ongoing engagement, BOL will host annual Citizen Facilitation Workshops where registered COOCs can review opportunities, share experiences, and receive capacity-building support on industry standards, HSSE, and operational efficiency.

Working with International Oil Companies

BOL acts as a primary wholesaler, supplying products to both International and Citizen Owned Oil Companies on a willing buyer, willing seller basis.
While BOL distributes fuel to IOCs, it does not operate in the retail marketing space. Instead, it focuses on supporting both IOCs and COOCs through reliable supply and infrastructure partnerships.

Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE)

Safety and environmental responsibility are core to BOL operations. We implement rigorous HSSE measures including:

  • Bulk vehicle and operator compliance inspections

  • Strict contract management and audits

  • Incident reporting and management systems

  • Continuous environmental and safety training

BOL ensures all operations align with Botswana’s environmental laws and international oil and gas standards.
